Off on a good start

Dear brothers and sisters,

Greetings to all of you in the name of Jesus Christ, Our Savior and Our Lord!

It is customary to say “Happy New Year” to everyone when a new year begins. So much so, we say it to people we like and sometimes to people that we are not too crazy about. If every wish came true, I think everyone in the world would be happy throughout the year. I say it, just like everybody else, but I like it better when we wrap it with many thoughtful prayers. Many of you have prayed for us in 2008 and those prayers made wonders. We count on you even more in 2009.

We are off on a very good start in 2009. We usually do not have good attendance on the first Sunday of the year, but this year we had a house full both in Junior worship and in adult worship. We praise God for that. After the hurricanes we did not start having Bible studies until December and they had very poor attendance. I would consider myself to have a great afternoon/evening if I had 12 people in Bible study. This past Wednesday, we had about 40 people in Bible study. I pray that it will keep growing to the point where we can reach the attendance we used to have in the past which was above 100 people.

Very early last year, we had a visit from Regina Green and Chad Summa, both professor at Central Christian College of the Bible. They came to teach. They always bless our student body with their big heart and their scholarship. Praise God for them.

This year, we don’t have them yet. Instead we now have Joe Green, the husband of Regina Green and a group of students from Central Christian College of Bible, plus Bill Fudge. They are all with us and came to do hard work. Ashley, Hannah and Brianna are responsible for painting the cafeteria building. You should see the inside of the building. It is beautiful. The men (Bill Fudge, Joe Green, Stephen and David) painted alongside the ladies. Beginning yesterday afternoon they were focusing on laying the tiles in the dining room and the kitchen of the cafeteria. So as I am writing they are busy doing that. They are doing other chores like cleaning blocks, transporting tiles and cleaning the floor of the cafeteria. It is all back-breaking work. We are off on a good start this year. Thank God for these brave souls who came to work here in spite of the pollution in our environment.

We are off to a very good start when we know that both 20 foot containers and the bus have arrived in town. We have already started the process of getting them. Micah was busy getting the papers ready. I (Salonique) met with the men who are responsible for estimating the cost of cusmtom fees. They told me that we should have the containers by Tuesday next week. We hope that will be the case.

Please pray that we get our shipment of goods next week. Thanks to every Church, Sunday school class and individuals who have sent these goodies to us. Thanks to those who helped load, unload, reload and sort these things before sending them our way. Praise God for His blessings.

Since school started two months late this year our students did not have their final exams last December. This week is their week of finals. They are supposed to finish this afternoon at 3 pm. In one picture you will see some of the highschoolers taking their test. The girl in the front (right) is Colene Ulysse. She is in 10th grade. Colene’s school is only possible because a family pays for her schooling. Colene is an orphan. Her dad passed away when she was in 6th grade. Colene is a member of Living Water Christian Church and we hope to see Colene making an impact in our country in the future. Pray for Colene.

We are also off to a good start at our vocational school. This week two radio stations wanted to have an interview with one of the leaders of Living Water. Micah went to reprensent Living Water. At first, we had very little idea what it was about. The first journalist, without asking for our permission, went ahead and described everything that he is aware that Living Water is doing in the community. The second guy did something similar. The word is out and consequently young men and women have flooded our campus because they were told that they could get very good training at Living Water. Consequently now our capacity, in terms of the number of computers, is way inferior to the demands. The classroom is way too small. We need to have a meeting to see how we can solve this problem in 6 weeks. Pray for us. Yes, not by might, but by My Spirit, says the Lord.
