The Ultimate Gift
Dear brothers and sisters,
Greetings to you all in the name of the Prince of Peace: JESUS!
In many parts of the world, people are snowed in. Some will have their wish: a white Christmas. In some cases they may have a little more than they would want. Here, this morning people put on their sweater. Some even put on their coat. But the temperature is not lower than 70. Granted in the mountainous areas it will be lower than that. Some of you might dream about having such weather for even one day before Spring, but you may not get it. Whatever the thermometer might say, it is a gift to be alive, to celebrate another Christmas.
In my home it is also the birthday of my third son, Timothée (Timothy). It is only 7:45, but the radio/CD is already rolling telling him happy birthday. He is nine. He was our Christmas gift in 2001. God has filled our quiver with many children. They may have a physical resemblance, but they are nothing alike when it comes to their personality.
Salgini (Mark) is introverted, quiet, timid, and a born technician. Asking him to spend time studying books or class notes is next to an unfair punishment because he would rather spend that time wrestling with a broken machine trying to fix it. For him that would be much more rewarding.
Ben is just the opposite. For him reading, studying, memorizing facts are the only things worthy of pursuing.
Tim only studies to protect his grade and not to receive the wrath of dad/mom for not doing his home work. The fun for Tim is people. His endeavor is to know people, befriend them, spend quality time with them.Esli, on the other hand, likes people, but it is to have fun, tease them and joke with them. So wherever he is something will always happen. He is sly enough to work himself out of all kind of trouble, unless you decide against him without any clear evidence.
Eliel is the tough guy of the family. He is our big boy. He is not afraid of tackling big people, yet with his little sister Eunice (Saïcah), he is soft. They are best buddies, at least for now.
Eunice is our singer and she likes to dance. In this sense, she may have the wrong dad, because I don’t know how to lift one foot to dance. Her best friend is Djilanda, Jude’s (Constructor) daughter.
For our grown ups we have added to our family: Oriente is caring, loves kids and is passionate about helping people.
Guerlande has the brains. She likes literature and will make a good scholar someday. We are still trying to figure Naomie out, but she has the best smile you can ever ask for. These are God’s gifts to us.
Our supporters are God’s precious gifts to Living Water. Wow! They went beyond the extra mile to help us get through one of the most difficult years in our history as a ministry and as a country. I humbly thank God for each and every one of them. They do not just sign a check, they also pray for us.
Some write very often. Others don’t, not because they don’t want to, but because they fear that by writing to us, they add to our work. Please do write. Your writings minister to us. We read some of the e-mails in our leadership meeting. One the most recent e-mails we received was from the pen of Jenna Hill. Her e-mail gave us incredible energy to continue to work for HIM.
The gifts of our supporters make it possible for us to pay our monthly salaries on time throughout the year of 2010. Thinking about the sacrifices some people make to continue to support us almost brings tears to my eyes. Their gifts make it possible to educate as many as 800 students and feed more than 800 people from Monday through Friday. Isn’t that an incredible thing? Please, tell me.Furthermore, some have driven their vehicles to a state different than where they live to drop goodies to fill up the buses that are coming our way every year. Think about it, Time, money and energy are being sacrificed to make things happen here in Haiti through our ministry. This is happening during a time when the economy in the USA is not good.
As I am writing, two buses: a big one and a small one are waiting at the dock to be cleared through customs. They are filled with good stuff from our brothers and sisters. I praise God for that. They are going to put smiles on many faces. Some are young (students of the school whose sponsors send them boxes) and some are old. Families will be blessed by them. Every one of the Living Water family will benefit from them.
God continues to do incredible things here using HIS people. I thank God for IDES. Besides financing a rebuilding project in the past, feeding and clothing the earthquake victims this year, they also came through to help us with the transportation of all the buses we have. I thank God for Kenai Christian Church for the many blessings that God has used them to lavish on us. I thank God for Paul Green for his commitment to see a better tomorrow for the Haitians, particularly the students of Living Water. I named only one organization, one church and one person but they are representative of the many people who sacrifice to make things happen at Living Water. YOU are precious to us.
One of our Christmas gifts is that our team has worked hard to establish the Paypal system on our website. The “Donate” Paypal button will make it possible to receive contributions online. This is the result of hard work on the part of brothers Ken Croll, Ray Ivy and dad Fred Green.
I am asking you to pray for the Green family. Their daughter Julie Green has gone home. Julie has spent her life giving and she has done so faithfully to her Lord to end. She is home celebrating waiting for The Day.
The Ultimate gift that we all receive from God is Jesus. Christmas is there to remind us to celebrate HIS birth. Isaiah 9:1-5 tells us that He brought with Him for mankind the following gifts that money cannot buy: (1) Light, (2) Joy, (3) Freedom, and (4) Peace. May you enjoy all these gifts in Him today.
Merry Christmas to YOU and YOURS.
Yours, because He came,
Salonique Adolphe and team
