Thanks to all of you who have sent money our way. We will continue our action in the Church and in the community. We appreciate your Christian sacrifice to help your brothers and sisters in need in Gonaives, Haiti. May God repay you for that.
We are continuing to visit the people in their homes. I have to tell you that we find very few people in the actual house. Some left the city for a different part of the country that they hope is safe. Others stayed in the city but took refuge in the house of someone who has a second floor. Still others just used a tarp and made a shelter on their roof top and stayed there. But the people in the last category still live in fear because any rain means misery on top of what they are experiencing. During our visit we found 8 houses that are damaged. We define damage as a house that lost a wall, a door, or part of a roof. We also found 5 houses that are completely destroyed. I am referring to people who belong to Living Water Church. There are other cases of destruction and damage, but the house did not belong to them. They rented it. I am not considering those cases. We pray that we will have sufficient funds to repair some homes and rebuild others.
Tomorrow, Jude and Rosemond will make a second visit to those places to take pictures and make an evaluation, then estimate each case separately. If you have in mind to help out the people in those kinds of situations, please do.
We started providing direct help to the people with food and water. I must tell you clearly that in our first intervention we are giving the people the actual money to buy the things that they need. The reason is that we still cannot find a place to buy food in large quantities and the people are in need. They cannot wait for another weekend. So we are supplying the funds to those 40 families I talked about in a previous e-mail so that they can feed themselves during the weekend. In the meantime I believe the road to L’Estere — a small town where we buy most things, rice specially — will open this weekend. Tuesday we will be able to buy rice and beans to distribute Tuesday and Wednesday to everyone in our Church and in the community. We have already 60 people in line to do the job. They usually do a super job. I will stop for now. More info in another e-mail.
Thank you, thank you for restoring hope in the hearts of those people who were hopeless just a few days ago. I love you all.Your servant and brother,
Salonique Adolphe
