Dear brothers and sisters,
“To whom will you compare God?”
Good morning to all of you. My prayer is that you are doing well, very well indeed.
I want to start by thanking all of you because you make it so easy for me to go on. Even if I were tempted to quit, I could not. Because all of you are with, not just me, but the whole family of Living Water, the whole city.
I apologize for the silence of yesterday. The day was not quiet at all. A group of men and women were on the campus of Living Water to unearth chairs from under the mud. They gave them a first treatment to take mud off of them and another group gave them a second treatment before they could take them down to the place to wash them. Micah was in Mexico MO with the brothers and sisters there. Moses and I were in Port-au-Prince at the bank. Then we went to the market where we bought five wheelbarrows and three shovels to add to the ones we salvaged. We had a terrible time. We finally made it home a quarter till 10 PM. There was light rain over the city last night, so our safety was the concern of many people and we were concerned too. That was why I did not say a word yesterday.
I wish I could enjoy a good night of sleep after being so tired, but mosquitoes have taken over the city and they make sleeping impossible. I finally got to sleep around 3 AM this morning and I had a meeting at 6 AM. I managed to hold it as planed.
This morning after the meeting we sent 16 men and women to l’Estere to buy rice and beans to distribute. I have a list of 113 families and 135 singles. Brother Elson’s list of kids who are in the Church, but whose parents are not, is not available yet. We will try to distribute these things as quick as possible.
Some have written to ask whether we have received food and water from the relief efforts conducted by the international community and national organization. I am sorry to report that the answer is no. They are making the distributions in the streets with long lines. But this is not the problem. We could wait in line, but there are many fights, pushing, shoving and trampling over people who have fainted or fallen. It is inhumane the way it is being done. There are cases of distribution at midnight. Imagine that! If the food distributions were done in a way that respected the lives and the dignity of a person we could go. But there is more humiliation and mistreatment than the average peaceful person can bear. So our relief really only comes from our brothers and sisters accross the sea or within our country.
I have included four pictures: (1) the house of brother Jordany Garcon’s parents. Jordany’s dad is a preacher and Jordany himself wants to be a preacher. He is a humble, quiet and promising young man. Sadly there is not one block left on top of another at his house. (2) the rescuing effort of the chairs. (3) inside of the junior worship building. (4) a meeting before heading to L’Estere this morning to buy rice and beans. Enjoy! The answer to the question above (To whom will you compare God?) is none. The question is out of Isaiah 40. There you will find a gold mine of who God is, what He has done and what He can do for us. I like to serve The All Powerful and the All Knowing God. I am sure you do too.
Have a Christ filled day. I will try to take care of myself. Please do the same.
IN Christ,
Salonique
