We Need You!
Dear brothers and sisters,
Greetings to you in the name of our Lord, Jesus!
Brothers and sisters, we live in a world that leads us to long for heaven more and more. At least this is my case. Haiti has always had one problem after another. However, the last six years, if it were not God’s light shining over the darkness of the nation, we would not be in existence anymore.
My people have known terrible sufferings in the last two decades: hurricanes, earthquakes, more hurricanes, and more earthquakes. And weaving through all those natural disasters is a leadership disaster. Our leaders only care for themselves. They give birth to our political instability and its twin brother called government corruption. So they finance and feed a group of heartless citizens to destroy their brothers and enrich themselves at their expense. Consequently, the suffering of my people intensifies. They suffer within our borders, under the eyes of our spineless and heartless leaders. They suffer outside of our borders under the eyes of our apathetic neighbors of the political arena, near and far. Our only hope of survival rests in the hands of our fellow brothers and sisters who are children of light to continue with their acts of kindness and their prayers. Without those two, life will be impossible in Haiti.
Many of our brothers and sisters shed tears both visible and invisible when they hear or see what Haiti is going through, especially those who physically served in Haiti. They ask many questions that remain without answers, or answers that could change the course of events. As I’m writing, the gang members continue to operate with no worries. There are massacres every week in one area or another. The international force, which has been in Haiti since last year was not able to gun down even one top gang leader. When rumors have it that one dies, it comes back again with more vicious tricks to make sure that our population’s eyes bathe their body.
Although all those things are taking place daily. God still finds a way to make us move forward. Yes, He does. It boggles my mind, but He does. There may be a decrease in attendance in our church in Gonaives, yet we meet every Sunday. All the four schools are in operation. Highland turns out to be a safe haven for even students from Lestere, even though our teachers still must use the back road to go to teach. Marmelade is moving forward. The university and its four colleges are going well. We need more classrooms and more chairs for that. The demand is great because the students cannot go to Port-au-Prince or other places. The orphans are doing well, yet the challenges are real. Satan does not like the idea of setting people free. But Our God of light is specialized in providing freedom to people. The health clinic continues to serve the community faithfully
Since the time that the bandits invaded our radio station and destroyed its equipment, we have not been in the air. We resumed working on the Internet last month. We have had batteries at the dock since January and we still cannot get them out despite the fact we’ve paid four times more of the original price to get them out. We still cannot go to the farm because the gangs are operating daily in the area. Those setbacks have their expiration date. We are waiting on the Lord.
I know that the situation in Haiti may fatigue the best of us. But I count on your patience and your continuous generosity. We need your continuous support
- to meet the monthly challenge of payment of salaries,
- to build the additional classrooms to get ready for the fall semester at the university,
- to complete the construction of the church at Marotte.
We need you!
In Christ,
Salonique Adolphe and Team
