The value of the added things

Dear brothers and sisters,

Greetings to all of you in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Most of us have been guilty of putting too much value on earthly things. And, most of us are still shocked by Paul’s statement in 1 Timothy 6:8, when he said, “If we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.”

In Haiti there is a custom when people go to the open market to buy, for example, some tomatoes. The vendor hands them a batch of 4 to 12 tomatoes. Then the buyer usually asks for what is called in Haiti “Degui,” “the added.” The request usually is, “give me the degui please”. Everyone knows that the buyer doesn’t put more value on the “degui” (the added things) than on the actual purchase.

I wonder whether we don’t put more value on the “Degui” when it comes to spiritual things. The “degui” (or added things) would be a house, job, food, or clothing beyond salvation. Yes, Jesus said to His disciples to rejoice because their names are written in the book. It could be a good relationship with Jesus and Kingdom service. We might be blessed with a fantastic relationship with family, friends, husband and wife and good health. The sad realization is that we sometimes sacrifice the batch for the “added,” the “degui.” We need to learn to value the batch way more than the “deguis”

I am not suggesting the “deguis” are not important. We can serve God’s children by making use of them. We thank God for all of you who give toward Living Water. Your giving will make it possible to have the second school building ready to be used. The roof should be poured this week. Praise God for that.

The “Degui” you put in the work of Living Water makes it possible to train these little children and feed them on a weekly basis during school . The Degui that you donate to Living Water makes it possible to build homes for people. We are building our third home this week.

We thank God for IDES and the brothers and sisters who work tirelessly to serve God’s people around the world. The Degui from IDES and other servants have provided containers and buses. Now our brothers and sisters in the States have bought a Bobcat and IDES has paid for its transportation.

All thoses things have a great value to us However we need to remember while we are using them that we need to watch our souls, our spiritual life and to work hard. We need to keep a great relationship with the King of kings.

Anthony and Winsten have been a very big help for us this Summer. Winsten is ready to go back Wednesday. We invited him to our leadership meeting and we all enjoyed some cake. Pray for a safe return for him.

We will also welcome another group from Warrensburg this coming Wednesday. Most of them are from Northside Christian Church. Pray for them. They are coming to do medical work and other things as well.

I think about most of you very often. I have not seen some of you in a long time and I suffer because of that. I will continue to pray for you and hope the Lord will make it possible for us to meet again soon. I hope we will see you in Peoria at the Convention. I love you all.

In Christ,
