Give Thanks
Dear brothers and sisters,
Greetings to you in the name of Our Almighty God, Lord and Savior, JESUS! We praise Our Lord Jesus because extravagant love for us led Him to the cross to die in our place. To Him be glory and honor forever and ever!
Today is a special day for me. It reminds me of an event for which I need to be thankful. Twelve years ago at this time I was on a plane headed toward Kansas City. It was an adventure. God was with me. Sure, it was a lot colder than it is tonight. Sure, there was white stuff all over (snow). Sure, the trees (so I thought) were dead.
But God had a plan for me; for Gonaives and for Haiti through what came to be known in 2002 as Living Water Christian Mission. In 2003 we had Living Water Christian Church and Living Water Christian School. I thank God for that. I thank God for allowing me to be part of such a great work. It is a work that makes a difference for Christ.
As I am writing I am confident that some of you are working on dinner for tomorrow. Yes, Thanksgiving dinner! Some of you are driving to the place where you will have the dinner. Others are maybe flying in a plane. Still others may wonder “Why do I have to work tomorrow?” Well, whatever the situation, it is a day to give thanks.
So tonight I am going to be personal. I ask your forgiveness if I you did not want me to mention your name in this article. I also beg your forgiveness if there are names who should be there and they are not. I could include literally thousands of names in that list (I am dead serious).
But I will name a few people for whom I am saying thanks at this time. Some of them are people who did one thing for me, but that one thing impacted my whole life. Others make impacting my life a habit. Still others are people who pray for Living Water and who invest in Living Water. You see I could not include all the names of people who make Living Water what it is for two reasons: 1. There are so many, and 2. I haven’t had a chance to meet everyone who prays for and contributes to Living Water. So below is my partial list.I thank God for Gareth L. Reese, Lloyd Pelfrey, Bob Stacy and their spouses. They are wonderful influencers. I thank God for Phil Marley for his friendships and advice. I thank God for John and Hellen Meyer, Jean Parker, Gardner and Angel Sorrell, Tim and Julie Crocket, Beth Bacon, these people have blessed me beyond explanations.
Thanks to Jeff and Elizabeth Oedewaldt. They were my very first friends when I arrived in the cold winter in a land that was unknown to me then. They may not even read this, but I thank God for them.
I thank God for my classmates and friends at Central Christian College of the Bible: Troy Titus, Chad Summa, Patrick Yager, Bill Fussner, Justin and Jennifer Danielson, Lucas and Melissa Hulien.I thank God for Nathan and Kelly Hart. They were the ones who sent the first 2000 dollars that we needed to secure the purchase of the first property of Living Water.
I thank God for the cards and letters from Janet Farmer and also for Wayne Mckinney. My buddy Wayne showed me where the donut place was at Union Avenue in 1998. Yes, he did. On numerous Sundays he gave me 5, 10 or 20 dollars for my lunch. Thanks Wayne.
I see my small list is getting too long, but bear with me a little more. I thank God for Ken Croll, Ray and Cassie Ivy, Bill Fudge, Jim and Darlene Williams, Cal and Angie Steinke. These are great workers for Living Water. They have worked hard both in the USA and in Haiti.
Thanks God for Tom and Kay Willis, Mike and Dorothy Hardee, Doug and Maureen Robinson, Jack and Stephanie Sumption, Louis and Lori Sholly. Thanks God for mom and dad Fred and Jan Green. These people mean the world to me. They did what God had put in their heart to do, even if it might have been unpopular.
I thank God because of you. Thanks for your prayers and your notes. Thanks for sponsoring a child. These children are giving thanks and will give thanks unto eternity for you. Thanks for your monthly support. Thanks to God for all our supporting Churches.
You may remember that I told you thieves stole our sound equipment. Well God has led us to another sound board to control the audio. It has made every one at Living Water crazily happy.
One of the thieves is now behind bars. We didn’t recover the stolen guitars, but three brothers at Miamitown Church of Christ each sacrificed their guitars and now we have three. The people in Haiti are crazily happy to hear that the stolen guitars are being replaced.
Thanks to you God. Thanks for the 500 brothers and sisters who met for worship last Sunday at Living Water. Thanks for the young servant Estevol who preached for the kids and for brother Jean Gilles who preached for the adults in both services. We praise God for them.
When you look at the picture of the students getting shots for prevention of H1N1, look at the buildings also to see what God has used you to do. Thanks to you and Praise and glory to Him.
The best I can do tonight to conclude is to repeat Paul’s words. “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now” (Philippians 1:3-5).
In Christ,
Salonique Adolphe
