Now I see!

Dear brothers and sisters,

Greetings to you in the name of Our Lord Jesus.

We use the phrase “Now I see” in different ways. We use it to say “we understand”. We use it when we catch on to something or when something makes sense. We also use it when we find something we were looking for.

In the Bible Jesus performed many miracles. One of the miracles that he did on a number of occasions was making the blind to see. You may remember Mark 8:22ff, Mark 10:46ff, Matthew 9:27ff and John 9:1ff to name just a few.

This week brother Michael Hobbs of Warrensburg had his devotion on one of those cases — namely Mark 10. But my favorite is John 9. I like the answer that the former blind man gave to the Pharisees when they wanted to know “how Jesus made him see.” He said “He put mud on my eyes (Don’t try it yourself), and I washed, and NOW I SEE.” They did not like that answer. They pressed on, charging that Jesus was a sinner. The blind could hardly care. If you allow me to paraphrase, he said something like this, “Whether He is a sinner or not, I don’t care.” “One thing I know, I was blind but NOW I SEE.”

This past week God has done wonderful things at Living Water. The roof of the second floor of the school building was poured. At the same time we had a team from Warrengsburg, MO who came to provide eye care for the people. They could have all worn T-shirts that read, “I care” and then put a bright eye in the middle of the shirt.

With love and compassion they took care of 345 people from age 2 to late 70s. The team had Dr. Thomas W. Hobbs, O.D. They provided eye care. I cannot tell you how many time I heard the phrase, “Now I see,” or “I see better.” Hundreds of people came out with big smiles and some of them even danced.

The team not only examined the people but they provided medicine, sun shades and prescription glasses. Those who have complicated problems like me will receive their glasses next month. Dr. Tom will have to make one that will correct their problems. You see! I hear you say, “Now I see.”

“Now I can see” where we are heading for the next school year because we have the roof poured. This means 5 new class rooms and three offices. All that is on second floor. If I tell you the new rooms will help us save a lot of stuff in case we have another Hurricane, you may now get it. But what if I told you the reason is because we will put our important stuff on second floor? You would probably reply, “Now I see.”

We had a great Sunday last weekend. We had about 500 people in worship in Gonaives and 97 in Marmelade. You can see that there is hope for Haiti because the Gospel continues to be proclaimed here. We continue with the project of building homes for people. Things like that give people hope.

It is getting late and I want to close this e-mail. But, before doing that, I want to thank every member of the team. I thank my big brother Joe Green who was part of the team. I thank Bob, Justin, Michael, Ginger, Steven, Rebecca, Amy and Dr. Tom. May God bless you all. I also thank my little brother Lucma who translated most of the time for Dr. Tom. By doing that he was a big help to me.

I want you to know that we are planning a trip for Micah in August. We hope that he can find a place to speak at your Church or your sunday school class, or your family.

I pray that my people will continue to turn to the Lord. And may they individually say in a spiritual sense, “I was blind, but NOW I SEE.”

Your servant and brother,

Salonique Adolphe
