A Church crumbles

A reply to the question “how can I help?”

Dear brothers and sisters,

Greetings to all of you in the name of our heavenly father!

I am writing with a heart filled with gratitude. My gratitude goes to all the brothers and sisters who remain in prayer for us. Those who don’t know the importance of prayer may underestimate it’s power, but I know, and my teammates know, and many Haitian people know. My gratitude also goes to those like Bree who sacrificed their money to give toward helping my countrymen.

My gratitude goes to the missionaries who left their home in Europe, America, Africa, Asia, etc. to come to work in Haiti. It is unfortunate that several of them died in the process, yet I am almost confident that those soldiers of the cross are glad that they don’t die as a coward, but as soldiers on the battle field. Also my gratitude goes to the relief effort workers who are on the ground working to save a few and to keep many alive. May the Lord bless you all.

In this situation everyone is affected. We need to keep alive those who are alive.

You can help by giving toward institutions that you know are helping and will be helping. Those of us from Living Water will continue to assist the people in Port-au-Prince as the Lord provides. We will serve also those who are from Gonaives who lived in Port-au-Prince and are now back in Gonaives. We want to make sure that many of the students are going back to school, are fed and care for their physical health. We are already planning to go back to Port-au-Prince early next week  with a bigger group. We are thinking about 25 people.

We will go to provide food for about one thousand (1000) people. We will also provide clothes to as many as we can. We will provide toiletry as well. We want to do these things once a week and add other things as we see the most dire needs coming up.To do all these things we need funds. So you are invited to help by providing funds to Living Water via

  • You can help by providing funds to institutions like IDES (International Disaster Emergency Service). These people are doing a wonderful job for the Lord. Donations to them will help the earthquake victims in Haiti.
  •  There are a number of preachers serving in Port-au-Prince as well. Brothers like Leon Dorleans, Eddy Bazin, Ronald Romeus, Luc Aristhene and others.  Your funds to them will allow them to do more.
  •  You can help by coming as a doctor, a nurse, or someone with a desire to directly help by just sharing whatever will make those victims see that you care.
  •  You can help by sending Vitamin C (EmergenC) with missionaries who are coming to help.  Things like pain killer will go a long way. Antibiotic is very precious. You can not mail those things.  They have to be carried by someone coming to Haiti. We would be elated to hear that you bring/send shots for tetanous too.

My friends, the list of the victims continues to grow. Just an hour ago, I called Manno who is our bus driver, mechanic and plumber.  He reported to me that they found his sister and her husband dead in a health clinic in Port-au-Prince.  Manno was distributing water yesterday to victims. Serge Adolphe, a member of Living Water and a distant relative, has his oldest son (He has two) still trapped in a house in Port-au-Prince.  He had moved to Port-au-Prince with the kids.

We have several high officials in the government who have died.  We lost  senators, representatives and many other high profile individuals died as well. We are saddened by a son who lost parents and sibling, a mother who lost husband and children, a father who lost all family members, except one or two, or a father who is crying over the death of his only child. It is terrible.

My wife does not stop crying when bad news arrives or when she sees a picture. She prays like crazy for those people. I had a hard time sleeping last night after seeing the devastation and the loss. It is big. But our God is bigger. Let us make a difference in the lives of the survivors. Let us bring them hope, not just earthly hope but also eternal hope in heaven with Jesus.

Because HE cares,

Salonique Adolphe and team
