Thankfulness

Dear beloved brothers and sisters,

Greetings to all of you in His name!

This year Living Water’s theme is “Christ, Our Priority.” Phillipians 3:7 has been chosen as the verse of the year. We pray that we will prove that Christ is our priority by the amount of time we spend (1) in the Word and (2) in prayer. We aim to prove that He is our priority by (3) our perseverance and (4) preaching of the gospel. Little as it might be, we would like to make visible that He is our priority through our giving toward His work.

Last Saturday more than 30 of us met to plan the year. My gratitude goes to our ladies who cooked our meals — namely our sisters Mary and Genia. We had two men with them to help out with heavy stuff — Evandieu and Smith. We thank these guys as well.

This week everyone here is very busy. As my father-in-law has just commented, “you guys are always doing something.” We are preparing for the sixth anniversary of Living Water.

We will miss the missionaries we had last year — friends like Fran Burton, Larry and Bev Saug, Calvin Steinke, Ray Ivy, Denis Smith, and oh yes, mom and dad Fred Green. We miss you guys already.

Thanks be to God. This year we will have with us thirteen men from Miamitown/Cincinnati. Nine of them were with us last year and 4 brothers will be visiting Living Water for the first time. Brother Joby Anders will bring the Word of Christ to us this coming Sunday on the occasion of our 6th anniversary.

One interesting fact about this trip is that these brothers started the laying of the blocks on the cafeteria a year ago. Now this year, we hope and pray, they will help complete the construction of the cafeteria. We are thankful for these soldiers of the Cross.

I have included different shots of the outside of the cafeteria building. Brother Roobens and his team should paint the outside before the end of this week.

As I am typing this e-mail, my friends, honestly my heart grieves. I am grieving the sudden death of my friend and sister in Christ Laurie Smith. She passed away last night. She was not sick as far as we know. Of course now she is in a much better place than all of us. Of course she is crowned and we are left in the race. Of course we know she is with the Lord because she has been a daughter and servant of God. We know all this and I know all this. But I still grieve because the next time I will be in Monon/Rensselaer IN, I will not be able to enjoy her cooking. I won’t be able to enjoy the fancy snacks she used to fix for us. I will not be able to converse with her as we did in the past. This leaves an empty spot. May Our Loving God fill the empty spot of our brother Harold Smith. May Our good Lord comfort him. May Our wonderful God comfort Jean Packer, Laurie’s mother. And may we all be found faithful until the end to join her in worshiping the King of kings and the Lord of lords on that day.

I beg you to pray particularly for Harold and Jean.
